New substation at Hnappavallar - Alútboð.

Due to the development of tourism in Öræfa- and Suðursveit, Rarik has requested that a new electricity delivery point be created on the settlement line in Öræfi, near Fagurhólsmýri and Hnappavellir.

At the beginning of May, RST Net began construction on a covered substation for Landsnet at Hnappavellir. It is expected to enter service in the second half of 2020. The substation will have three 145 kV GIS switch cells from ABB in Germany and will be the first digital substation in Iceland.

A digital substation is a term used for an electrical substation whose operation is controlled by distributed intelligent electronic devices connected by fibre. The digital substations bring major benefits in design, installation and operation.

RST Net is responsible for the design, installation and supply of materials.
