Construction contract for Lækjartún signed
January 26, 2021
RST Net participated in a tender for Lækjartún (LAE-30) for Landsnet.
RST Net has signed a construction contract for the installation of equipment for a new substation at Lækjartún. Lækjartún will be a new covered 220/132kV-66kV substation in South Iceland east of Þjórsá. The substation will establish a connection of the 220 kV grid to the 66 kV regional grid, which will significantly strengthen the capabilities of the grid in South Iceland, as pressure has increased considerably in the area in recent years.
Lækjartún will connect to the 220 kV Búrfell Line 2 and both parts of the 66 kV network in the region. Between Hella and Lækjartún the plan is to ground Selfoss Line 2 on a 16 km long section. Selfoss Line 2 will also be connected to the substation with a 66 kV underground cable about 1 km long.
Design and procurement work has already begun and construction on site is expected to commence in September 2021 and be completed by the end of the year. The substation is digitised fully according to European standards and is carried out in cooperation with specialised foreign companies in this field: ABB-Hitachi, Knobel Engineering and others.
